Codes of Business Conduct: Content, Editing and Distribution Best Practices
Description:
A code of conduct document is the cornerstone of any effective compliance program. A code communicates an organization’s expectations and reinforces the essential practices, behavior, ethics and business standards for all individuals who represent it. In addition, tracking employee acknowledgment of the code sends a clear signal to regulatory and legal entities that the organization is making a good faith effort to walk the straight and narrow.
But what determines its ultimate effectiveness is the degree to which it is embraced by all constituents. When properly executed, the code of conduct becomes a clear demonstration of the organization’s values in action.
Many corporations are revisiting and rewriting existing Codes of Business Conduct (or developing if one does not exist). This interactive online symposium features leading Ethisphere consultants walking participants through the best practices in content, editorial style and distribution of an effective Code of Business Conduct in addition to commenting on Ethisphere Magazine’s quarterly article, “50 Codes of Conduct Benchmarked,” and what differentiates an “A” from an “F”.
Discussion Topics Will Include:
- Why you need to rewrite your Code
- Setting the proper tone from the top
- Topics for the code to proactively address risk areas
- Proper language and structure
- Use of learning aids
- Reporting procedures
- Certification of the Code
- Communicating your Code
