Ethisphere Announces the 2015 Attorneys Who Matter

Recognizing those who advance ethics in business through objective leadership and set the example for their organizations.

New York, NY – June 16, 2015 Ethisphere, the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, announced today the 2015 Attorneys Who Matter. Honorees represent all areas of practice including federal agencies, in-house counsel, top ethics and compliance officers of major companies, and outside counsel. Each one raises the bar for ethical behavior and boasts a commendable track record of public service, legal community engagement, and academic involvement.

“I’m honored to be among Ethisphere’s 2015 Attorneys Who Matter. To me, attorneys who matter have a constant focus on the organizations they represent and the customers they ultimately serve,” explained TIAA-CREF’s Senior Managing Director & Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, Janice Innis-Thompson. “At TIAA-CREF, maintaining the highest ethical standards has been an important part of who we are for nearly 100 years. Given Ethisphere’s deep expertise in measuring and defining core ethical standards, I’m especially proud to be recognized in the category of ethics and compliance.”

“Ethisphere is a leading light in promoting ethical corporate culture and is on the front lines bringing corporations together to brainstorm practical, business-minded compliance strategy. Effective corporate compliance is challenging in any one country, let alone across today’s complex global regulatory landscape,” said John D. Buretta, partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. “It is an honor to be acknowledged by Ethisphere this year, in whatever measure, for fostering discussion and providing effective legal advice about these increasingly complicated matters.”

“I am honored to receive this designation and be in the company of past and present compliance thought leaders,” said Wyndham Worldwide’s, SVP, Corporate Compliance Officer, Korin Neff. “This recognition reflects the dedicated efforts of associates at every level of our company, who drive our culture of responsible and ethical practices around the world.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by Ethisphere alongside so many esteemed individuals.   With the globalization of corruption enforcement, compliance is at the forefront more than ever,” said Neil MacBride, partner at Davis Polk & Wardell LLP. “Companies are facing increased risks, both with foreign regulators cracking down and investigations becoming more coordinated across jurisdictions. All of this underlines the importance of helping our clients develop a robust – and active – compliance program both at home and abroad.”

“Business with integrity is not often covered in our 24/7 news cycle. Even less so are those who make it a priority and leave lasting effects on the business communities they serve,” acknowledged Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich. “Ethisphere set out in 2007 to heighten awareness of those companies and individuals who are ‘doing it right’ and has been bringing this community together to advance ethics and integrity in business in ways that have a positive effect globally. Congratulations to this year’s honorees who do just that.”

The award recognizes those who have risen to the top of their field thanks to a combination of expertise and experience, peer and/or client endorsements and high-profile cases. Other key notable individuals on the 2015 list include: Brackett Denniston, SVP, Secretary and General Counsel, GE; Mary Jo White, Chair, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; David Ogden, Partner, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, LLC; David Hyman, General Counsel, Netflix; Brad Smith, General Counsel and EVP of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Microsoft; Karen Benson, Director, Compliance & Ethics, Royal Caribbean; Therese Lee, Senior Counsel, Global Ethics & Compliance, Google, Inc.
