2019 Global Ethics Summit Panel Discussions Seek to Break New Ground on Progressing Business Integrity

Expert panel discussions on the #MeToo movement, risk intelligence, organizational justice, root cause investigations, and more offer a sophisticated approach to company advancements

Ethisphere, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, today announced a selection of special sessions added to the new agenda for the upcoming 11th Annual Global Ethics Summit in March. The expert panel discussions include front-page topics such as the impact of the #MeToo movement, data-driven due diligence, organizational justice, ethical influence on external stakeholders, culture change and perceptions, and more. The Summit will take place on March 13-14, 2019, at the Grand Hyatt in New York City, adapting each year to include the issues that are at the forefront of diverse leadership thinking, improved performance, and company integrity.

As the premier annual assembly with contributions from CEOs, Board Members, Chief Legal Officers/General Counsels, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officers, and other business influencers, the conversations among leaders extend beyond traditional areas of focus, offering practical advice and innovative approaches to some of the biggest challenges to corporate behavior and company values today.

“As a leading platform for ethical business practices, it is vital that the Summit take inventory of what is happening in the global business ecosystem and address the challenges that are in plain sight, as well as elevate those critical compliance areas that can disrupt even the most advanced companies,” said Kevin McCormack, Vice President of Global Thought Leadership, Ethisphere. “The willingness of the faculty and attendees alike to actively share their insights, and to do so with refreshing authenticity, has become a hallmark of this event. These conversations serve as a true catalyst for progress and improvement.”

In addition to the Global Ethics Summit, Ethisphere serves the business community through its member-driven Business Ethics Leadership Alliance (BELA). This association of more than 250 companies worldwide has demonstrated a strong commitment to company ethics, compliance, and governance. Many of these member companies are heavily involved with the Global Ethics Summit and hands-on with their support of the BELA community and reaching out to provide excellent networking opportunities for participants interested in learning from some of the most respected professionals.

“Whether we as executives have responsibility for the business, legal, or compliance, each of us has a responsibility to ensure that the company offers an inclusive and respectful workplace, making no excuses for conduct that even resembles harassment. These conversations should unite us, not divide us, and to accomplish that, we really need to take a ‘plain speak’ approach to avoid confusion and preserve the integrity of the corporate culture that we seek to protect,” said Kathryn Ditmars, General Counsel, JLL Americas. “The Global Ethics Summit has always been a trusted platform to enable thoughtful discourse and inspire company leaders to action. Few issues have had as great a need for this kind of focus and values-based discussion as #MeToo, and I am excited to be part of introducing this among the leading agenda topics this year.”

“As a long-time admirer and participant at the Global Ethics Summit, and as a member of the BELA community, there are few better arenas to connect with people whose vision I trust and whose perspectives I respect,” said Bill Parkin, Chief Compliance Officer, Avaya. “I am very excited to join a panel for closer examination of risk assessments across the global landscape. As the CCO of a global company, it is extremely important to me that we take into account the legal, compliance, and cultural challenges of operating globally. This has a transformative impact in ensuring we are doing business the right way, no matter where in the world we are doing it. I look forward to sharing what I have implemented and hearing even more new and bold ideas from my peers.”

“In an era where data can expose big reputational risk, it is critical to think about ways to incorporate sophisticated intelligence into due diligence programs,” said Jeannine D’Amico Lemker, Assistant General Counsel, Office of Legal Compliance, Microsoft Corporation. “More practitioners are recognizing how ethics and governance is a growing concern for consumers, shareholders, and the general public. This panel on due diligence will address key issues related to how data can be used to identify trends, predict compliance issues, and reduce risk. It is a ‘must-attend’ for practitioners interested in creating state-of-the-art risk mitigation programs.”

“At Voya, we recognize that customers are increasingly seeking to do business with companies that are genuinely good,” said Paul Gennaro, Senior Vice President, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, Voya. “We see our culture—and the authentic character of the Voya brand—as a competitive advantage and a differentiator that will only become more important as we go forward. By coming together with the leading experts from around the world at the Global Ethics Summit and learning about innovations in the field of compliance and communications—from each other—we are in a better position to collectively raise the bar on customer expectations and positively impact society.”

Now in its 11th year, the Summit is expected to bring together more than 500 attendees from a diverse set of industries and will offer participants the opportunity to engage in candid and interactive sessions.
