Ethisphere publishes 2014 Ethics Communications Best Practices Report

Report captures key findings from second-annual Best Practices in Ethics Communications Workshop.

NEW YORK, NY — May 7, 2014 — Ethisphere, which annually selects the World’s Most Ethical (WME) Companies, announced today that it has released the 2014 Ethics Communications Best Practices Report.  The report is available on Ethisphere’s website at

The 2014 Ethics Communications Best Practices Report highlights strategies and tactics for leveraging ethics and integrity as differentiating brand attributes, citing key takeaways from the second-annual Best Practices in Ethics Communications Workshop, which was held at the New York Stock Exchange on October 24.

Both the report and the workshop were produced by Ethisphere’s Communications Advisory Board, which is comprised of recognized leaders in corporate communications.

According to Tim Erblich, chief executive officer of Ethisphere, the 2014 report captures new and impactful insights from the global business community.  “This publication builds on the thought leadership conveyed in our first report by emphasizing the important need for organizations to work across the C-suite to create an ethical business culture.”

The report features insights and perspectives from several recognized leaders in communications, academia, and legal and compliance, including Paul Argenti, professor of Corporate Communication and Corporate Responsibility, The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth; Roger Bolton, president of the Arthur W. Page Society, the leading global professional association for senior public relations and corporate communications executives; Gary Sheffer, vice president of corporate communications and public affairs at General Electric and chairman of the Arthur W. Page Society; and Dr. Edward Queen, director of the Ethics and Servant Leadership Program, The Center for Ethics, Emory University.

“We are excited to build on the momentum and energy coming out of our second-annual Best Practices in Ethics Communications Workshop by publishing the expert perspectives and successful strategies that were shared at the New York Stock Exchange in October,” said Paul Gennaro, AECOM’s senior vice president and chief communications officer, who also chairs the Communications Advisory Board.

Best practices that enabled companies to attain WME recognition are included in the report, with highlights from Becton, Dickinson and Company; Cleveland Clinic; and Wipro Limited.  The report also captures data from public relations firms Edelman and Hill+Knowlton Strategies, including examples of how companies have used ethics to positively position the business community with external stakeholder audiences.

Additional workshop takeaways cited in the report come from experts such as Jean-Marc Levy, senior vice president, head of global issuer services, NYSE Euronext; Vic Beck, rear admiral, U.S. Navy (retired), managing director at Burson-Marsteller and former vice chief of information for the Department of the Navy; Holly Gregory, partner, Sidley Austin LLP; and Dana Perino, former White House press secretary, president of Dana Perino Communications and a co-host of The Five on Fox News.

In addition to Argenti, Bolton and Sheffer, Ethisphere’s Communications Advisory Board includes the following corporate communications executives from companies that have earned WME recognition: Barry Caldwell, senior vice president of Public Affairs and Communications for Waste Management, Inc.; Ray Day, group vice president of communications for Ford Motor Company; Paul Gennaro, senior vice president and chief communications officer for AECOM Technology Corp.; Laura Kane, vice president of Corporate Communications for Aflac, Inc.; Eileen Sheil, executive director of corporate communications for the Cleveland Clinic; and Dawn Werry, vice president of marketing for Milliken & Company.  Ben Boyd, global chair of the Corporate Practice for Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm, is also a member of the Communications Advisory Board.
