Ethisphere’s Business Ethics Leadership Alliance Expands Company Centers of Excellence

Leading BELA member companies share their strategies, expertise and solutions on some of the most important and challenging issues facing global companies. Initial Centers of Excellence showcase practices from The Boeing Company, Realogy, Microsoft, Wyndham Worldwide, Teradata and SABIC.

New York, NY – May 25, 2017 – Ethisphere’s Business Ethics Leadership Alliance is comprised of leading global companies committed to collaborating across the global community. Our new Centers of Excellence include multi-modality insights, tools, examples, policies, podcasts and more to help all companies mitigate risk and improve their performance. These Centers of Excellence come directly from member company requests and member companies stepping in with their expertise. The Business Ethics Leadership Alliance expects to have up to a dozen contributing company centers by the end of 2017 available for the entire global BELA community of companies.

Embodying the spirit of the BELA community and the impetus for the Centers of Excellence, David Howard, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Litigation, Competition Law, commented, “There’s no competition between companies when it comes to compliance and ethics.”

Under the direction of Kevin McCormack, Vice President of Global Thought Leadership and Programs at Ethisphere, the new BELA Centers of Excellence will enable the sharing of content that will standardize ethical measurement, help companies improve their governance and ethics programs and, most importantly, create sustainable long-term value.

The initial launch includes five centers that contain practical insights around challenging subjects for ethics and compliance professionals with multiple modalities of information that are intended for immediate download and use. Companies within the BELA communities that exemplify best practices will be integral partners in developing the content for the program, including:

  • Wyndham – Policy Best Practices
  • Boeing – Structure of an Effective Global Trade Program
  • Microsoft – Positioning Compliance as a Business Advantage
  • Realogy – Manager Resources
  • Teradata and SABIC – Building an Ethical Culture

“Studies show that consumers and stakeholders not only want to do business with ethical companies, they demand it. In fact, among Millennials and Generation Z, many won’t even consider conducting commerce with a company that does not illustrate acceptable values,” McCormack said. “Now, more than ever, the time is right for these types of discussions which will take place within the new BELA Centers of Excellence. We believe this is a ground-breaking innovation in the field of corporate compliance and ethics.”

“The BELA community has grown to the point where we have enough leaders with global experience to add credibility and support to the type of content pieces that are going to make a profound impact on ethics and compliance programs,” said Erica Salmon Byrne, Executive Vice President and Executive Director of BELA. “I’m thrilled that Kevin – who in his role with Ethisphere has built strong relationships with many BELA companies over the years – will be taking the lead on bringing these pan-industry best practices to light.”

In the coming weeks, the Business Ethics Leadership Alliance will be hosting member-driven local roundtables in cities around the globe including Minneapolis, New York City, Seattle, Boston and Frankfurt to provide a platform for candid exchanges aimed at helping executive leaders and their companies openly address strategic challenges and collaborate together around actionable solutions. Company leaders from NBC, Ingersoll Rand & more connect to address best practices in corporate integrity and resilience in ethics-challenged region

New York, NY– May 23, 2017 – Ethisphere, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, will host its fifth annual Latin America Ethics Summit at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay on Thursday, June 15.  The Summit, which has been the leading industry event in Brazil over the last four years, will move north of the border to Miami—this is the first time the summit has been conducted in the United States.

“With such a strong Latin-American population residing and conducting business in Miami, Ethisphere is excited to bring this unique event to the southern border of the United States,” said Stefan Linssen, Chief Content Officer, Ethisphere. “As the Latin-American economy continues to mature as a significant contributor to the global economy it is essential that leaders in ethics and integrity are provided a forum to amplify their commitment to ethical business practices while building the credibility needed to earn their place on the world’s stage.”

Each year, Ethisphere’s Business Ethics Leadership Alliance (BELA) community has been a catalyst for this regionally focused summit, showcasing multinational members with substantial business priorities across Latin America and beyond.  Both BELA and other globally positioned companies have made corporate integrity a priority in this region as where headlines often focus on corruption. This one-of-a-kind Summit serves as an opportunity for companies to not just share best practices, but establish a collective front to change perceptions and push integrity to the front of business practices in the region.

“Thanks to the Latin America Ethics Summit, Ethisphere has provided a forum to openly talk about the environment, challenges and best practices on building compliance programs that is ever so important for Latin America,” said Reyna Torrecillas, Chief Compliance Officer, GE, Latin America. “I’ve had the opportunity to attend the Summit for the past three years and I’ve found the caliber of the speakers, the discussions and the networking invaluable for Compliance Leaders. I look forward to this year’s edition and to engage on a dynamic conversation that is helpful to continue raising the bar on Compliance for the region and our programs.”

A diverse faculty will lead interactive discussions and network throughout the day, including topics such as third party risk, measuring ethical culture, assessing ISO 37001 anti-bribery standard, training with multicultural considerations and more. Featured speakers include chief legal officers, chief compliance officers, and regional leadership from such companies as:

  • Microsoft Corporation
  • GE
  • Royal Caribbean Cruises
  • Votoratim Cimentos
  • NBC Universal Telemundo Enterprises
  • Yum! Brands
  • Jones Lang LaSalle
  • Millicom
  • TE Connectivity
  • Praxair

Ethisphere Introduces Third Party Risk Forum in Silicon Valley

With third party concerns still pervasive, candid discussions afford an opportunity to re-examine best practices

New York, NY– March 18, 2017 – Ethisphere, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, hosted its inaugural Third Party Risk Forum in Santa Clara, CA to connect over 60 different organizations and multidisciplinary professionals. As a Forum positioned to include any type of industry, not just tech, this event captured a diverse set of companies from some of the most well-known brands in the world on the stage and in the audience. Topics in the spotlight at the Forum included emerging FCPA activity, M&A due diligence, data threats and information security and social media and reputational hazards. Interactive discussions on these topics and with the audience were anchored by a faculty representing the following institutions:

  • Microsoft Corporation
  • Juniper Networks
  • Salesforce
  • Uber Technologies
  • Visa
  • Granite Construction
  • Convercent
  • Opus
  • Stanford Law School

Ethisphere’s Business Ethics Leadership Alliance (BELA) community is a key influencer when it comes to building relationships across organizations and identifying the challenges that impact companies the most. LinkedIn, Nokia, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Salesforce, Sony, Western Digital, Visa and eBay are just some of the organizational members that bring a forward-thinking approach into this type of forum.

“I always welcome an opportunity to benchmark and network with counterparts at other companies, and to hear practical advice from experienced practitioners,” said a senior compliance counsel from one of the leading tech companies in attendance.

“With 60 different companies having interest in a first-time event such as this, that certainly tells us something,” said Kevin McCormack, Ethisphere’s Vice President of Global Thought Leadership and Programs. “We already know that third party concerns are top of mind for compliance teams and that executive management teams and board members have growing concerns for the risk associated with suppliers, vendors, partners and other relationships. So when we have a response like this to a Third Party Risk Forum it reaffirms that not only are these concerns very real, but leaders are looking for, and need, more insight from their peers. You have a lot of fierce competition in Silicon Valley, but not when it comes to wanting to do the right thing by addressing risk and sharing best practices. Connecting the right people on these topical conversations is what makes assemblies such as this so valuable.”

Some of the highlighted conversations from the Third Party Risk Forum will extend to Ethisphere’s upcoming Latin America Ethics Summit in Miami on Thursday, June 15 where third-party anti-corruption, the impact of the ISO 37001 standard and risk assessment in Latin America will be on the agenda. To join the conversation at this annual event, now in its fifth year, you can find more information here: https://latinamericaethicssummit.com/.
