Ebony Yeboah-Amankwah
Signet Jewelers

“If you want to really understand where you are, what good looks like beyond what you’re seeing at your own company or what you already thought you knew, how do you do that? I think Ethisphere is the answer to that. Ethisphere has helped me and our organization be better.”

Barbara Chiu

Senior Manager, Legal Compliance

“The other companies that are part of BELA, that are part of Ethisphere, that are [receiving World’s Most Ethical Companies® recognition], we want to be there too. They are our guiding light, our north star for what we want to continue to grow and develop in the future.”

“Ethisphere is my go-to source.”

Stephanie Champagne
Lincoln Financial

Ethics and Compliance Consultant

“Prior to Ethisphere, I relied on regulatory guidance and systems telling me a policy or regulation had changed — I don’t recall getting a lot on ethical culture, speak-up, or organizational justice. Ethisphere is my go-to source for all of that, and for seeing what other organizations are doing.”

Watch the interview

“That trust factor is there. It builds a bridge.”

Reginald Youngblood
AT&T

AVP Corporate Compliance

“Ethisphere provides the platform to help someone become better in their career. … It’s like therapy, because I’m talking to others and they’re having the same issues I’m having, and that trust factor is there. It builds a bridge.”

“It’s data-based. It’s been tested already.”

“Ethisphere helps me be more confident in the suggestions I’m making to improve our program, because it’s not just something coming out of left field. It’s data-based. It’s been tested already somewhere else.”

Decision-Making

Ethisphere helps me be more confident in the suggestions I’m making to improve our program, because it’s not just something coming out of left field. It’s data-based. It’s been tested already somewhere else.

Stephanie Livingston-Thornton
Policy Administrator, Altria Group

The assessment is really a great tool to gather hard data to validate that belief and also identify potential areas of opportunity to improve the culture.

Craig Pedersen
Director, Global Compliance and Ethics Program, PepsiCo

BELA provides great insight and benchmarking to help a company understand where they are in their compliance journey against DOJ and other regulatory expectations and against their peer set.

Lisa Robinson-Davis
Director of Compliance, Carter’s Inc.

Program Strategy

[Ethisphere] is a game-changer — it offers us the ability to benchmark against peers and leading practices. The data and insights informed our priorities, needed improvements, and focus.

Alan Sauber
Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Premier, Inc.

We wanted to benchmark ourselves against the best. After they came through and did a benchmarking study for best-in-class, Jan and her team worked extremely hard over just a nine-month period to close those gaps.

David Fountain
EVP and General Counsel, Tennessee Valley Authority

One of the things I love about Ethisphere is it gives me a roadmap to present a two, three-year plan to program maturity and effectiveness.

Hemma Lomax
VP, Associate General Counsel, Global Integrity, Governance and Compliance, Zendesk

Board & Stakeholder Confidence

Reference the BELA resources, especially if you have to do board presentations. One of the best things about being a part of the BELA community is that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Kendall Mills
Head of Ethics and Compliance, Americas, JLL

It’s a strong message to our clients and our third parties, because it is part of our culture. Our compliance and ethics program has helped the reputation of the company to grow.

Mavín Domínguez Arroyo
Global Compliance Manager, Grupo Bimbo

Ethical Culture & Speak-Up

Perhaps the greatest insights came directly from our own employees, as we included an ethical culture survey in the Compliance Leader Verification process. Our advice to others would be to engage your employees and seek their input.

Antonio D’Amico
SVP, Deputy General Counsel, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, AECOM

Prior to Ethisphere, I don’t recall getting a lot on ethical culture, speak-up, or organizational justice. Ethisphere is my go-to source for all of that, and for seeing what other organizations are doing.

Stephanie Champagne
Ethics and Compliance Consultant, Lincoln Financial

Ethisphere’s Culture survey was amazing. The On-Demand Reporting tool was a lifesaver, saving me a month of work by delivering reports in five minutes.

Janet Alves
Director of Compliance Programs, AES

The Problem. The Data. The Program That Changed.

Grupo Bimbo

“If you are not measuring your program, you don’t have visibility into the progress and the gaps. In-house, you may think your program is great. If you aren’t measuring it, you don’t know.”

Mavín Domínguez Arroyo, Global Compliance Manager

The problem

A small team centralized in Mexico, a footprint growing from 22 to 32 countries, high-corruption-risk regions, and associates who assumed Compliance was internal audit.

What the data showed

A baseline maturity score of 2.3 out of 5, with an independent expert scoring pass and an improvement roadmap on top of the self-assessment.

What changed

Five years of year-over-year measurement took the program to 4.6 out of 5. More than 20 Compliance Champions now sit across the globe.

02 / 03

Sony

“We had people say they were not aware of our policy against retaliation. And I’m thinking, how could they not be aware of it? It’s posted all over, and we send quarterly emails.”

Kathleen Franklin, Global Ethics and Compliance Strategy Leader

The problem

Culture questions lived inside the general engagement survey, which was never built to answer whether employees would speak up.

What the data showed

A large block of neutral responses signaled low awareness, not indifference. Awareness ran measurably higher where a manager had communicated it.

What changed

Manager training became mandatory, with completion tied to compensation. The pilot went from two business groups to the entire global workforce.

Avangrid

“What we wanted was to measure ourselves against what we considered to be the most respected peer group in the field, the World’s Most Ethical Companies®.”

Alistair Y. Raymond, VP and Chief Compliance Officer

The problem

Six years of assessments from consultants and law firms had produced proprietary outputs with limited value for external benchmarking.

What the data showed

Compliance work was already happening outside Compliance. Metrics and root cause analysis were early-stage, and staffing didn’t match the peer set.

What changed

Avangrid appointed a full-time CCO separate from the General Counsel, launched a cross-department root cause initiative, and built a manager’s ethics toolbox.
