Association of Corporate Counsel President & CEO, Veta T. Richardson, to Speak at the Global Ethics Summit on Boards of Directors and Their Impact on Performance
The 7th Annual Summit will bring together CLOs and Senior Ethics, Compliance and Governance Professionals from more than 140 companies to network and share ideas to advance corporate integrity.
WASHINGTON and NEW YORK – February 20, 2015 – The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 37,000 in-house counsel, and Ethisphere, the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, today announced that ACC President & CEO, Veta T. Richardson, will moderate “The Board Factor: Impact on High Performing Companies” at the upcoming Global Ethics Summit on March 10-11, 2015 in New York.
There is a close nexus between company performance and effective board leadership. The current business climate has an increasing expectation that the boardroom reflects leadership representing diverse professions, experience and backgrounds. The conversation at the Global Ethics Summit will address how boards are evolving today, their role in corporate governance and the link between board diversity, company performance and ethical achievement.
Ms. Richardson will be joined by two panelists: Simon M. Lorne, Board Member, Teledyne Technologies Inc.; Vice Chairman & Chief Legal Officer, Millennium Management LLC and Melvin T. Stith, Board Director, Aflac; Dean Emeritus and a professor at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.
“Our latest research, from the 2015 ACC Chief Legal Officers Survey, found that 96 percent of CLOs and general counsel consider ethics and compliance to be a top priority,” said Veta T. Richardson, president and CEO of ACC. “This concern extends to the relationship between in-house counsel, the board of directors and the overall health of the company, where we have observed that the aggressive regulatory environment calls for greater accountability and transparency. I am excited to lead a further conversation about this crucial topic.”
“Research has proven a correlation between ethical leadership and company performance so it is easy to understand why Boards, CLO’s and Executive Management are leading the dialogue,” said Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich. “We are delighted to have Ms. Richardson, a leading authority in the space, join the conversation that will include executives from leading companies around the globe.”
The Summit will focus on “Elevating Value Through Integrity: How Leading Companies Accomplish Excellence Worldwide” and will bring together more than 140 companies and nearly 350 executives including: CEOs, board chairs, communication executives, governance, risk management and compliance leaders and government and regulatory officials.
The 7th Annual Summit will offer participants the opportunity to:
- Hear from CEOs of leading multinational companies sharing insight on leadership and reputation
- Listen in as Board members share their views on governance, ethics and leadership
- Network with executives and in-house counsel
- Understand the government’s view on the compliance and corruption landscape, and emerging approaches to enforcement
