Ethisphere’s Compliance Leader Verification recognizes organizations with an outstanding commitment to achieving a best-in-class ethics and compliance program

Scottsdale, AZ – AUGUST 17 , 2026 – Ethisphere, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, announced today that Unum Group has earned the coveted Compliance Leader Verification for 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Founded in 1848, Unum Group is a leading provider of employee group disability, dental, life and critical illness insurance, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. With nearly 11,000 employees worldwide, Unum protects more than 38 million employees and their families worldwide.

“Congratulations to Unum Group for achieving Compliance Leader Verification recognition. We were particularly impressed by Unum’s program structure and resources led by a truly empowered CECO,” said Curtis Leicht, Manager of Culture Services, Ethisphere. “Their program demonstrates strong measurement of ethics culture including creative use of surveys following compliance training. What truly distinguishes Unum, however, is the consistency of its program. All areas are operating at a relatively high level of maturity.”

The Compliance Leader Verification process involves a rigorous review of an ethics and compliance program and corporate culture. It includes completing the Ethics Quotient® (EQ), a questionnaire covering the elements of an effective program; benchmarking program practices against the World’s Most Ethical Companies®; and extensive document review and interviews with executives and stakeholders.

Unum Group’s performance was evaluated on six key areas: program resources and structure; perceptions of ethical culture; written standards; training and communication; risk assessment, monitoring and auditing; and enforcement, discipline, and incentives.

This recognition from Ethisphere reflects the strength of Unum Group’s culture—one grounded in integrity, accountability, and a shared commitment to doing the right thing,” said Beth Simon, Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, Unum Group. “We’re proud to advance compliance and ethics as a core part of how we serve our customers and support our employees every day.”
